In order to support the learning concept at the ESBM, we designed various pieces of furniture that could be used for sitting, working and co-working, reading, relaxing. Inspired by the building´s long hallways the analogy of the riverbank was found: The existing empty recesses become spaces where the flow is brought to a halt and material and students can settle down. After a long process of testing and evaluation, 8 “Sandbänke” were installed in the spring of 2015.
The Sandbank has been nominated for the shortlist of the Orange Social Design Award by the Magazine Der Spiegel. It has been published in Competition magazine in March 2017.
